Pride of 70’s Bollywood: Kader Khan

“The road to success and the road to failure are almost exactly the same.”

Kader Khan (22nd October 1937 – 31st December 2018) was born in Afghanistan. He was very naughty during his childhood. Kader Khan had 3 brothers and he loved all of them too much but unfortunately, all three of them died at an early age. After that, they shifted to a slum area of Mumbai. Living in slum areas, Kader Khan watched everything from prostitution to drugs and murder. The situation got even worse when his parents decided to divorce each other. Soon after divorce things got more and more difficult for him and his mother that it forced her mother to marry again for the sake of her child.

It was a time when Kader Khan didn’t get anything to eat at night for 3 days in a week. He couldn’t see her mother in too much trouble so he decided to sell his books and start doing labour job with other children of the slum. But her mother explained to him that his labour income was not sufficient to solve their problems and if he really wanted to overcome the financial problems then he had to study. These words changed his life completely.

After that, his only focus was on his studies. In his college life, he got a little more interested in acting. So as a hobby, he started doing stage shows in college. Luckily for him, one day Dilip Kumar, the famous personality of Bollywood saw him performing in the annual function of his college and got impressed by his performance. With an aim to do something great in his life he completed his graduation as well as post graduation in civil engineering and started working as a professor. Sooner than later Dilip Kumar got in contact with Kader Khan to get him to work as a scriptwriter. This was the beginning of Kader Khan’s new life. He started his film carrier by writing the script of a movie “Jawani Diwani”. Thereafter he wrote scripts and dialogues of many movies including ”Roti” and ”Amar Akbar Anthony”. In 1973 he made his debut with the movie ”Daag” as a side actor.

After that, he played supporting roles in many famous movies like, ”Chor Sipahee”,” Mr Natwarlal” and many more. In the beginning, he only did negative roles but on his son’s demand, he attempted comedy roles due to which bollywood got its amazing comedy partners: Govinda and Kader Khan. They have done many hit movies together such as ”Raja Babu”,”Aunty no.1”,”Hero no.1” and many more.

Till 2005 Kader Khan had acted in more than 300 movies and wrote dialogues for more than 200 movies. This article a small tribute for Late shri. Kader Khan from ‘Be The Best’ team.
